Namanga Hills are located near the town after which the hills are named, close to the Kenya – Tanzania border. The drive to the hills from Nairobi is a smooth easy affair and will probably take about 3-3.5 hours. The scenery is spectacular along the way from far off hills to rolling plains and gorges here and there. The starting point of the hike is next to the main highway and after we’re taken our briefing, it’s a straight climb up
The hike does not go all the way to the peak and we would instead be reaching a view point near the top after which we head slowly down to the forests on the southern edges of the hills where a small river runs through. The full hike may take 7-8 hours to complete and is approximately 11km long. This is firmly a moderate hike on the same level as Mt. Longonot and has amazing views of the town, valleys and mountains in the distance. We may even see Mount Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru in the distance from the viewpoints
The cost of the hike will cover
- Transport by bus from Nairobi CBD and back
- Entry fees for Kenyan Adults – for residents and non residents, the fee will be 250 and 500 Kshs more respectively
