When it comes to hiking, Ngare Ndare stands out as a popular and in demand hiking destination. Some of the best swimming locations in the Kenyan North can be found at Ngare Ndare Forest and in the right weather, the water can look a beautiful turquoise colour. You can see a reel from our partner, Joanna, at the link below
To fully enjoy our time at Ngare Ndare, we will be visiting it as part of an overnight trip. To make the trip even more interesting, we will be combining it with another hike destination called Zaina Falls located near Nyeri town
This is the summary of what we’re planning:
Saturday
- Leave Nairobi at 6am, head to Zaina Falls, located a few km from Nyeri town
- Expect to arrive at the Kenya Forestry Gate around 11:00am
- Do the Zaina Falls hike and finish around 4pm
- Once done with the Zaina hike, we drive to Nanyuki and check in to our hotels ( either Kirimara Springs Hotel or Maxoil Hotel )
- We’ll spend the night in Nanyuki
Sunday
- Early breakfast at the hotel up to 6:30am
- Drive to Ngare Ndare and expect to arrive by 8am
- Start the hike and visit all 3 waterfalls with plenty of swimming time at each pool
- Finish off the hike with the canopy walk and leave the forest at 4:30pm or so
- Return to Nairobi by 10pm

The total cost of the trip per person will be as follows depending on hotel chosen:
Kirimara Springs Hotel
- Single room – 10,200
- Double room – 9,200
- Twin room – 9,800

The costs above will cover (per person)

- Guide fees and ranger fees at both forests
- Half board accommodation per person at the hotel – meaning dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday are both covered

- For residents the cost increases by 250 kshs and for non residents the cost goes up by 3500 Kshs
Room Terminology
1. A single room is one where only 1 person can stay. It has one bed only – great for those who really want privacy
2. Double room has a large bed, usually 5 to 6 feet wide. The bed can take 2 people – usually couples or family members take this room. Or best friends
3. Twin room – there are 2 separate beds – ideal for friends who don’t know each other that well or strangers who don’t mind sharing a room with each other
4. Triple room – this might have a large bed and small bed or 3 small beds. Can take 3 people
Important: you can only book a double, twin or triple room if you are sharing. If you are not sharing, then you would take a single room
You can read the description of both destinations here: Zaina Falls and Ngare Ndare
