This is a high elevation gain hike with a difficult rating. The hike is in Aberdares national park and though it covers a total distance of 11-12km, the elevation change is nearly 1000m and reaches a summit of 3826m. The hike starts and ends at the same point

The hike has varying vegetation and is adorned with high altitude mountain scrub cover and offers views of the surrounding slopes and other peaks in the Aberdares ranges. Near the summit we find 7 small lakes or tarns which is where the name of the trail comes from.

This hike is suitable for preparing for the Mt. Kenya hike since the elevation change is high and goes up to mountain altitudes

The cost of the hike will cover
- Transport by bus from Nairobi CBD and back
- Entry fees for Kenyan, residents need to top up with 300 Kshs while Non residents need to top up with 77 USD
- Ranger fees
- Emergency Water and light snacks
This hike is suitable for kids as young as of 14 years – please also note that all kids must be accompanied by an adult
