Eburru Forest – Western Summit

Located to the north of Lake Naivasha is Eburru forest which is a mixture of indigenous trees, woodland forest and parts of montane forest. The forest is close to Lake Elementaita in the north and part of the greater Mau forest complex. The trail starts from the KFS office and quickly moves into the forested trails where birds can be heard aplenty. The first 6km has a generally downward gradient with a few rises as we head deeper into the forest going westward

Past the 6km marker, the trail stars rising and continues to rise for the next 5km or so until we reach the summit which stands at 2829m ASL. From the summit, the return is the same way back, thus creating a trail that is 22km long

Along the way we may get glimpses of Lake Naivasha to the south as well as Hells Gate and Mount Longonot in clear weather.

Full day trip

It can take about 3 hours to the KFS office due to the nature of the roads leading to the starting point
