As Kenya’s second-highest mountain, Mt. Elgon offers a premier mountaineering challenge that transitions through lush forests onto the towering peaks of Elgon National Park. The trek to Koitoboss Peak (4,222m ASL) is a demanding high-altitude expedition, featuring a steep 850m elevation gain over a 14km round trip. If lucky, we are rewarded with the rare opportunity to trek alongside diverse wildlife and stand on the rim of a staggering 40km2 caldera that stretches into Uganda. Beyond the summit push, and if time allows, we may explore ancient caves, hidden waterfalls, and 300-year-old indigenous trees.
